Our experienced and compassionate practitioners manage a diverse range of treatments and patients of all ages.  We draw on a number of health professionals to manage each patient – through case-conferencing we are able to pinpoint the exact cause of any illness and treat accordingly.  Client details remain confidential with practitioners at all times

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Our Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Practitioners are registered with the Chinese Medicine Registration Board of Australia (CMBA). They are able to provide treatment for Workcover and patients can claim rebates for treatments when they have “extras” cover for most private health funds. These rebates also include Remedial Massage treatment sessions. Our team are passionate about their work and aim to provide excellent service.   Clients are encouraged to contact the clinic and speak directly with their practitioner should any queries, questions or concerns arise.  All of our Zen5 clinics have a HICAPS facility* that is available for instant claiming from private health cover.

Dr Tian Hui Xiao (Principal TCM Practitioner) – Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine

Dr Xiao (TCM) is our Principal Practitioner who founded Zen 5 (formerly Beijing Medicine Centre) in 1997.  He is a qualified Chinese Medicine practitioner, graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Chinese Medicine from Beijing Chinese Medicine University.  Dr Xiao (TCM) has been Associate Chief Physician at Beijing Chinese Medicine University since 2001 and has taught Qigong and Tai chi for 15 years.  In addition to working in China and Malaysia, he is a gifted educator, and taught both acupuncture at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Academy for 4 years, and Chinese Medicine at Victoria University for 3 years.  Dr Xiao currently practices at the Emporium and North Fitzroy clinics.

Dr Oscar Moreno (TCM Practitioner) – Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine

Oscar Moreno is strongly committed towards the care of his patients and focuses in maintaining their well-being not only by treating the disease, but also by promoting a healthier lifestyle.He has a keen interest in the profound spiritual features of Chinese Medicine and their implications in the relationship between emotions and a good health, as well as a deep devotion towards the significance and value in the effectiveness of Chinese Medicine in the treatment of both chronic and acute diseases.  Oscar is available for appointments at the North Fitzroy and Highpoint (Maribyrnong) clinics.

Dr Anthony Gung (TCM Practitioner) – Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine

Anthony Gung is a registered Chinese Medicine practitioner from RMIT University specialising in Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Cupping, Gua Sha and Chinese massage (Tui na).  He completed his internship in Nanjing, PRC at the Jiangsu Chinese Medicine Provincial Hospital.  Anthony has interests with musculo-skeletal complaints, psycho-emotional support, internal medicine and is an accredited member of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society for offers on rebates for most health funds.  Anthony is taking appointments at the Camberwell  and Emporium clinics.

Dr Song Liang (TCM Practitioner) – Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Chinese Massage

Dr Song Liang has been in practice as Acupuncturist & Chinese Herbal Medicine practitioner since 2001 in Australia. Beginning in 1984, he also worked as a physician in China.  Dr Liang feels that the primary feature of modern Traditional Chinese Medicine is the premise that good health relies on the restoration and maintenance of harmony, balance and individual order.  His philosophy about TCM is that it takes a wholistic approach to understanding normal function and disease processes, focuses as much on the prevention of illness as it does on the treatment.  As a former medical practitioner he understands many medical conditions can treat by TCM methods to get very good result.  He welcomes clients to consult with him and experience his seasoned techniques which could greatly improve their quality of life. Dr Liang is currently taking new patients at Zen5’s Highpoint (Maribyrnong) clinic.

Dr Jiangtao “John” Lu (TCM Practitioner) – Acupuncture, Chinese Massage

Dr John Lu completed his Bachelor of Medicine at Jiangxi Medical College in 1984. Upon Arriving in Australia John completed a Masters of Librarian study at Monash University. Following this John worked for several years in IT. After surviving a cancer scare, he decided to return to his previous occupation of working a health practitioner. He then completed his Masters of Applied Science in Acupuncture at RMIT in 2012 along with an internship in a Chinese Medicine hospital in Nanchang, China. Dr John Lu combines his TCM knowledge with his background in western medicine, as well as his own personal experience having survived cancer, to provide his patients with an integrative and holistic treatment. Dr John has a special interest in dealing with chronic neck and shoulder pain that result from excessive screen time – which he understands from his time in the IT industry, both in the home and the workplace. Using a combination of acupuncture, Tui-Na (Chinese remedial massage), and exercise therapy, John helps people achieve better posture, reduced stress and more energetic lives. John also regularly practices both Taijiquan (Tai Chi) and Baguazhang (Ba Gua), in order to enrich his own life and that of his patients.

Dr Leoni Zakarias (TCM & RM Practitioner) – Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Remedial Massage, Chinese Massage

Leoni is a qualified Chinese medicine practitioner offering both Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine and is also massage therapist (in various modalities such as Chinese remedial massage (Tui Na An Mo), Thai, Aromatherapy, & Polarity therapy). She is passionate about patients achieving their optimum wellbeing in all areas of health; physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. She is a compassionate healer who believes that every patient is unique, so every treatment is tailored specifically to assist the individual to be empowered to regain balance & harmony in all areas of wellbeing. Leoni combines her knowledge of classical theory and her special interest in utilizing food as therapy into the foundations of her treatments.

Leoni has completed a four year Bachelor of Health Science in Traditional Chinese medicine (Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine) at the Southern School of Natural therapies. As well as a Diploma in classical canonical theory with the centre for East Asian Studies, Diploma of Traditional Chinese remedial massage (An Mo Tui Na), Cert IV in Thai massage, Aromatherapy (massage with the use of essential oils, to create pure relaxation), Polarity Therapy (energy based healing) and Pregnancy & Baby massage at South Australian Health Education Centre. Leoni has volunteered treating & training in a rural village in Jharkhand & Kolkata, India. Leoni is registered with AHPRA, and a member of AACMA so consultations with Leoni are covered by most healthcare providers.

Professor Lun Wong OAM is a pre-eminent authority on Chinese medicine in Melbourne. He has made a significant contribution to educating practitioners and practice in Australia. He established the Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine Australia in 1975. He also founded the Traditional Medicine of China Society Australia Inc in 1985. Now over 91 years old and retired, Professor Wong continues to provide occasional guidance and mentoring advice to the Zen 5 practitioners. He has always emphasised the importance of integrating the five main methods in treatment as appropriate for each individual patient.”

Professor and Mrs Xiao have been qualified Professors of Chinese Medicine for over 40 years in China and in Australia.  They have extensive knowledge in each of the five areas of practice, and provide insight and consulting services to the Zen 5 practice. They regularly return to China to learn the latest techniques, which they pass on to our Zen 5 Practitioners.
