The Chinese Medicine Element of Earth

Each of the Five Elements in Chinese Medicine has a corresponding organ system.  Each of the Elements and their organs are connected very closely with all four of the other Elements.  Together, they make up the ecosystem of the body, mind and spirit.  These Five Elements are what Zen5’s Chinese Medicine practitioners use to make a diagnosis for our clients.  We then use the information to make a treatment plan that helps get the client’s body, mind and spirit back to optimum balance and health. An alternative to, or in conjuction with conventional medicine, Chinese medicine includes Acupuncture , Chinese Herbs, Cupping, Massage and exercise to help create internal balance.  Using the Five Elements, we help to establish harmony in body, mind and spirit.

In Chinese Medicine, the organs in the Earth element are the Stomach and Spleen.  They are in charge of receiving energy from outside our bodies in the form of food and drink, then transforming it into something that the body can use, in the form of digestion.  Earth (Spleen) energy tops up our fundamental (Kidney) energy and keeps us going throughout the day.  It’s jobs are also to contribute in making Blood, and hold that Blood inside the vessels.   Low energy, combined with digestive problems and/or craving sweet foods can indicate that the Earth element is out of balance.  If the digestive system is not working properly, for example because of poor diet or over-thinking, a coating forms through the inside of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and starts to cause health problems.

Chinese Medicine uses Acupuncture , including electro – acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and most especially Diet Therapy for the types of problems we encounter in the Earth Element.

Imbalances in Spleen and Stomach energy are reflected in such problems as:

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Bloating

Constipation, diarrhoea or loose bowels

Low energy

Excessive Sweating

Varicose Veins

Nausea and vomiting

Reflux

Weight Gain

Poor digestion

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) or Post Viral Fatigue
